Biography of the Great John Negroponte

John Negroponte was born in London on July 21, 1939. His father, Dmitri John, was a Greek shipping magnate. Negroponte was the first ever Director of the Central Intelligence appointed in 2005. Currently he is serving in the capacity of United States Deputy Secretary of State.John Negroponte graduated in 1956 from Philips Exeter Academy and from Yale University in 1960.Alongside William H.T. Bush (uncle of President G.W Bush), Negroponte was also a member of the Psi Upsilon fraternity.Negroponte has served United States Foreign Services for more than 30 years starting from 1960. During these years he has held many important positions at the State Department and the White House. He has served in Asia, Europe and Latin America at eight different Foreign Services posts. He has served as the American ambassador to honduras in 1981 and then as an ambassador to Mexico (1989-1993), ambassador to Philippines (1993-1996). From June 2004 to April 2005, he was ambassador to Iraq. He was the Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs from 1985 to1987. for the next two years till 1989, he was appointed as the Deputy Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs. He has also served as an executive with the McGraw-Hill before he was appointed as United States Permanent representative to the United Nations from 2001 to 2004.Negroponte younger brother (Nicholas negroponte) is the founder of MIT Media Lab and the One Laptop per Child project. John Negroponte and his wife have five adopted children.Negroponte has been often featured on news sources by C-Span, etc.
